Reveiw: Skambankt – 1994

This is a band that I discovered via Spotify a long time ago, and it turned out that it would be one of my all-time favorite bands ever… Spotify gave me a suggestion of new music, and I just fell in love with the cover of the album Søvnløs.

I’m talking about the Norwegian band Skambankt! Pure and social rock music that hits my soul like a hammer!

According to Wikipedia Skambankt means: “Skambankt (Beaten to a pulp or beaten up) is a Norwegian hard rock band from Klepp, just south of Stavanger. They play a mixture of classic rock’n’roll, punk and hardrock in the tradition of bands like Motörhead, AC/DC, Sex Pistols, Ramones and The Stooges. All the lyrics are in Norwegian.

I don’t really know if that the Wikipedia description is right, I can only say that it’s rare when you find this kind of music today. That music that makes you want to listen to the entire album, and also check out the back catalog!

So I did! And I actually bought all of their albums! And to this day I can still sit down and listen to them a whole day on my cd-player! (Yeah, I’m old school! 🙂 )They sing in Norwegian, which is almost the same as Swedish, so I really understand the lyrics. But for all of you that don’t speak Scandinavian – it doesn’t matter, because you will find the feeling in the music!

So Skambankt recently released the album “1994”, an acoustic album, and it’s really amazing! And this is actually the review of the album!

So, I have to start with this: I don’t know anything about this album, I’ve just found it on Spotify, and it contains songs thatI haven’t heard before. I really thought I that I had heard all of their songs before. But apperantly not!

So, how about the album? Well, a real highlight of the album is the song “Slukk Meg (For Eg Brenner)” togheter with Camilla Rosenlund! So beutiful and sad. And Camillas voice…! SO beautiful!

Another highligt is song “Vår Bør“. This is a one of my all time favourit songs with Skambankt! An amazing rocksong that turned acoustic country type of thing. It cut me like a knife (sorry about that Bryan Adams wink…) , and it really works this way. And don’t miss the song “Født På Ny“, the last song of the album! The translation of Født På Ny is: Born again, would have done all things right…

The album is really what you want Skambankt to be, it’s their songs but slower. And it’s realistic and a bit dark but very beautiful. An album that you have to sit down and really listen to. Amazing! Listen to it!!

Here it is on Spotify:
